Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
